I am going to be in the area from the 2nd to the 4th(?). It's been since 06 since I was last in the area. I don't know how much free time I will have as this is a work thing but looking for suggestions on things to possibly see / do.
I have no idea where I will be staying yet. Or how much I can do as Chigago is now what, 2 degrees?

I was there for work in November about a mile away from Solider Field. Lots of good restaurants a quick cab ride away. Brazilian meat on a stick, The Weber grill, and a ton of great bars.

I'm 3 hours south of Chicago but I'm up there almost every week. What do you enjoy, food, sight seeing, touristy stuff? For food I'd tell you to try this fast food chain called portillos at least once. I recommend a big beef with hot peppers. (Salivating right now). Get a drink at the John Hancock build on one of the top floors. Visit navy pier and take a boat tour.

Also if you want a good meal try fogo de chao and Greek islands.

Did Navy Pier last time I was there, that was in the summer time, not sure I want to go there in the dead of winter.

I've been more of a Brazzaz fan myself, over Fogo De Chao.

I second Portillo's and the Signature Room. The price of a Signature Room drink is about the same price as admission to the observation deck. It's basically the same view with a drink in hand!
If you're working in the Loop, skip the numerous Starbucks and get yourself some Intelligentsia coffee. You won't be disappointed!

Lakeshore drive on a Saturday night is always fun for a Jalop, when it's not icy and snowing.
Tickets to the Second City are always good if you like Improv.

If you're able to explore in the evenings, give Paddy Long's a try. You unfortunately won't be in town for a Beer & Bacon tasting, but they do have an amazing dish called the Bacon Bomb (Italian sausage, chopped bacon, pulled pork all smoked in a bacon lattice shell). If you have enough people with you, you can split one, or you can order a slice on a sandwich.

It's debatable but fogo has better deserts :). Really Chicago has the best Brazilian steak houses, you can't go wrong. Now pizza and hotdogs on the other hand is a hit a miss type of thing. Who tries to bring another cities style into our city?!?

It will be just me. We are getting things set up for two shows at the same time, Chicago Auto Show and a Motorcycle show in Indy. We have our own booth in Indy and are just lending a hand to Ford in Chicago, so its just me in Chicago.

If you're free one of those evenings, I could meet up with you somewhere in the city. Are you staying at the Hyatt McCormick Place or somewhere else downtown?

Havent made any reservations yet. Unfortunately, this is how my company works:
[last minute rush and excitement]: "We need you to go to Chicago to help set up the show from the 1st to the 4th then go to Pitt to help one of our schools out, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell us you can work through the weekend for us!"
Me: Okay, so I would leave for chicago on the 1st and then leave from chicago to pitt on the 4th?
Them: UMMM Hold on, let us verify that before you make any reservations.
6 hours later, I am still waiting.
But once I have things sured up I will let you know.

I understand 100%. My girlfriend worked for a company that worked like that sometimes. She would be working on a report at her desk, and she would get a call from her boss saying she needed to fly somewhere for a job that night.

If you have the option, stay at that Hyatt. You won't have to venture outside once you get there or desire food that isn't in the lobby.

I was looking at them, and they are close to the convention center. If I were to venture, is there much in walking distance from there?

You're relatively close to many of the major museums (Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Science & Industry) but a good distance away from anything else.

Ill have a rental, but I also grew up in the Boston area and frequented NYC, so I know how intense parking in a major city can be, especially in the winter months.

It's not bad there's plenty of parking garages and there not really expensive (especially if your job is going to reimburse you).
